Languages

We are a dynamic, supportive department and we are passionate about opening students' horizons through a positive experience of learning languages.

The department consists of four full time teachers, all of whom are experienced linguists. We develop the four keys skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing through a dynamic range of activities. We have access to an ICT suite where students use commercially produced software such as 'Linguascope' to improve the 4 key skill areas.

We study cultural aspects of Spain and Spanish speaking countries, including la Tomatina and La Corrida de toros. We have developed a strong link with a school in Spain, and give our year 10 students the opportunity to visit our partner school in the south of Spain, before welcoming our Spanish friends to visit us at Top Valley Academy.  This gives our students an authentic experience and the opportunity to meet and stay in contact with Spanish friends through social media.
