We are fully committed to safeguarding physical and emotional welfare of our students. We expect all students at Top Valley Academy to behave responsibly towards one another and to demonstrate respect for all and self-discipline.

We also promote an environment where bullying is unacceptable. This is given a high priority in all elements of learning, coaching and mentoring. 

Equality

Everyone at Top Valley Academy will be treated equally and be encouraged to be positive in their attitude to everybody outside the Academy - treating and respecting others as we would like to be treated ourselves.

All students are entitled to all that a good education offers, irrespective of their social circumstances, ethnicity, gender or ability.

Compliance with the Equality Act 2010

Top Valley Academy is committed to the fair treatment of all individuals.  In accordance with the Equality Act 2010, we are committed to making sure that no individual experiences less favourable treatment, discrimination or harassment because of their age; disability; gender identity; marital and familial status; pregnancy and maternity status; race; religion or belief; and sexual orientation.

We embrace our general duty to eliminate discrimination, to advance equality of opportunity and to foster good relations, in all that we do.  Applications for admission from all potential students will be considered in line with the published admission arrangements.

Duty to Make Reasonable Adjustments 

The Academy's new buildings will be accessible for disabled students, staff and visitors so that they may be integrated fully into Academy life.

The Academy recognises that reasonable adjustments may be required to enable disabled students, including students with specific learning difficulties, to achieve their full potential. Reasonable adjustments will be made to meet the specific individual needs of disabled students to ensure they are able to perform to the best of their abilities, are integrated into, and participate in all aspects of Academy life.

The Headteacher and the Governing Body will have overall responsibility for ensuring that this policy statement is implemented.

Children with Statements of Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Local children with Statements of Special Educational Needs (SEN), and those looked after by the City Council, will have a priority place at the Academy. We will seek to ensure that every child has a full entitlement to the curriculum and that his/her individual needs are met.

The Academy has adopted the model policy for SEN required for all Academies as part of the Funding Agreement and will, therefore, act in accordance with the national Special Educational Needs Code of Practice.

An Academy does not affect parents' rights to appeal to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal against decisions made by the City Council, as the local authority. The Academy SEN disagreement resolution pack outlines details of a free and entirely voluntary service set up to facilitate timely and satisfactory decisions, made at a local level, about the naming of an Academy in a child's Statement of Special Educational Needs. The pack also sets out information about the process of admission to an Academy for a child with a Statement, and details the roles and responsibilities of all parties, including the Academy, the local authority, parent(s) and child.

TRAVEL SAFE on Buses and Trams Partnership

The Academy wishes to inform parents that CCTV is in operation on Nottingham City Buses and the Tram Network.  The Academy work with NCT and NET in the use of CCTV for safety purposes. The Headteacher will view any footage bought to his attention involving any unsafe behaviour that could effect the safety of students or other passengers.
